Book #1 from the series: Cold Series

Cold Subterfuge

About

Winter 1947/48: the guns have fallen silent, but a new war has begun – one fought with secrets.

John Sedo, once an elite soldier, now serves as a secret agent in the CIA. His first mission sends him deep into Europe, where the victors fight over the new borders. Truth, deception, betrayal: all currencies in the spy's fight for survival.

The heavy drapes of the Iron Curtain pull John toward his darkness within, each step leading him into a descent beyond redemption. Then he meets Allison Lakehill. Her light and beauty may become his salvation – or sink him into the abyss.

Caught between desire and duty, conscience and command, John must navigate a landscape where every decision comes with a price. A price that could cost him everything.

A suspenseful blend of espionage, moral conflict and impossible love set at the dawn of the Cold War.

Praise for this book

This story is so well written that nothing can come close to it. A flawless narration with the right amount of romance foreshadowed behind a taught spy thriller. The dialogues are crisp and carry the weight of the situation. The premise is of the yesteryears yet the author has done a fabulous job of keeping it real. As a reader I was at the edge with the secretive CIA operations and the sweet romance that flowered with the adventurous plotline.

Although a bittersweet ending, it is how life is. And I still enjoyed the story to the fullest. I would have loved for John and Allison to make it. But what can you do when duty calls and serving the country is above love. A Love that takes a special place in our hearts but will remain unfinished. I am crying.😭

I loved this novel. A young solder is recruited for the CIA post WWII. While the war is over, there is a war within this young man that still burns. Tension between former allies’ result in the iron curtain and the cold war. But love warms this former soldier’s heart. When John Sedo falls for a girl, he learns about the power of love!

Love changes everything!

This book is unique as it is written from the perspective of a protagonist. He is torn between conflicting sides of his personality. While he has a strong moral foundation and is attracted to purity and light, he also has a dark side that is drawn to violence.

I highly recommend this novel with five stars because it is a well-written page turner. I loved that it is witty and clever yet has elements that are ominous and dark. I found it to be intense and think it would make a great movie! If you love spy movies or those set during the cold war, I think you’ll love this romance about the struggles of young love when circumstances make life hard. It’s captivating and heartwarming with a satisfying ending!

This was quite the thrill! Id have to say I don't choose too many books like this one but I am glad i did. It is well written and the ploy is very well laid out. Sometimes i get a little lost in books such as these hints why i tend to avoid them but the author did a fantastic job on this on. I can see it becoming a series, at least i hope so. A great read!

The narrative is rich with historical detail, transporting readers to a time and place where the stakes were high, and the future was anything but certain. The author's ability to weave factual events in with the fictional journey of John Sedo creates a tapestry that is both informative and engaging. Readers will find themselves immersed in a story that not only entertains but also provides insight into the human condition against the backdrop of one of the twentieth century's most defining moments.

Wow! This book was really good. I usually don't pick books like this, but I'm glad I did. It's well written, and the story is laid out nicely. Sometimes, books like this can be confusing, but not this one. I was hooked from the beginning to the end.
It's easy to follow, and I never felt lost. I think this could be a series, and I hope it is. The characters are interesting, and I'm curious to see what happens next. Overall, it was a great read. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good book.

Since I am a fan of reading history books, particularly anything about the Soviet Union, Nazis, and World War II, this book really delights me. It has all the elements that I wanted. This first book of the series is a great introduction to the adventures that are about to happen to the extraordinary man in the story.

The great talent of the main character made him a part of one of the most prestigious organizations in the world, the CIA, apart from being a good military man. It can inspire people who want to start a military career because every strategy of his is laid out pretty well in the story.

I also love how the characters are introduced, it is so much detailed to the point that I already memorized them even in the first portions of the book. I can say that it will help me understand the next books of this series pretty well because I plan to buy all of the succeeding books from this series.

It only entails that I am very satisfied with this book because it is entertaining, the twists are mindblowing, and most especially the story has a moral lesson.
